Construction skills and migration

In our Market Report we highlighted labour as an upward cost pressure, partly due to construction’s ongoing skills crisis but also the sector’s dependence on EU labour at a crucial political turning point. One thing that we’ve frequently highlighted is the lack of reliable data around the demographics of the construction industry, something which various industry bodies (and the ONS) are seeking to remedy.

The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) published a piece of research at the end of last week which seeks to understand construction labour composition set against a backdrop of a new visa system post-Brexit. In this brief update, we outline the key points from the research.
