London’s soaring skyline | alinea in the Evening Standard

The latest report by New London Architecture and GL Hearn, as prominently covered by the Evening Standard, revealed that a record 115 towers are under construction in the capital. Over 90% of the apparent pipeline of 510 towers are residential, which serves as a reminder that tall buildings have moved from being engineering challenges to social challenges.

alinea consulting is proud to be involved in delivering a number of the towers shown in the image of the emerging City skyline, including the four projects pulled out for special mention.

Steve Watts, alinea Partner and Chair of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) said “Whilst one can only  speculate about how many of the 500 plus towers in the pipeline will be built, there is no doubt that London’s skyline is changing irrevocably, and this latest phase of high-rise development is an indicator of the strength of the London market. However, we need to ensure that the tall buildings that are taken forward are appropriate in terms of use, quality, location, and that we don’t forget about the urban habitat and interactions at street level.”
