In the second week of our Reinvention Project Spotlight series, we look to our Icon Outlet @ The O2 scheme for the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and Crosstree Real Estate Partners.
This exciting 210k sqft retail development infilled a previously unoccupied space – directly adjacent to The O2 Arena, which hosts over 200 events per year. Our extensive retail and mixed-use knowledge greatly helped us navigate the design, programme and logistical challenges of this hugely impressive scheme.
The implementation of BIM was key to the success of the project. We heavily utilised the federated model to drive true accuracy and programme benefits into the scheme, making full use of the model for cost planning and procurement and taking the team on these journeys with us.
As discussed in our recent cost model, the future challenge for the real estate sector is around which changes will remain post Covid-19. Understanding the context and permanence of the social changes we are seeing, can assist us in ensuring the spaces we create are future proofed and fit for purpose. Where the retail market has faced set-backs over the past 18-months, we believe it is essential for the sector to represent a “destination that offers an experience, as well as somewhere to socialise”. The Icon @ the O2 scheme very much encapsulates the thoughts in our cost model of a human focused asset; with its huge range of amenity, shopping and close proximity to The O2 Arena.
