Talking about wellbeing in the workplace

This week construction workers see the launch of the Construction Helpline app. The app compliments an established 24/7 Helpline provided by Lighthouse Club, a Construction Industry Charity. This app is the culmination of a building movement within the construction industry to address the issue of poor mental health in the workplace.

Current figures for the occurrence of mental health problems across all UK industries are shocking and the construction industry is no exception. Research, commissioned by Public Health England (PHE) revealed that suicide is the leading cause of death for male construction workers under 50, which is 3.7 times above the national average.

At alinea we are proud to support all work towards this cause and the wellbeing of all our team members is a top priority. On 10th October 2018, we asked employees to celebrate World Mental Health day by writing down a goal to keep themselves mentally healthy that day. They were also given the opportunity to hear a talk about mental health delivered by RICS Charity Lionheart.
