James has over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry having gained his initial grounding as an engineering services design consultant before changing career paths in 2003 to specialise in cost management.
James is well versed in the cost management of projects across a wide range of sectors and, with his background in services engineering design, he brings an engineering rigour with the ability to review, question and offer value engineering options to meet the requirements of our clients.
His most recent work has focused on infrastructure masterplanning and upgrades across the commercial, life science, residential and retail sectors where he has gained valuable insight, knowledge and expertise in infrastructure cost planning, procurement and delivery.
James is a key part of the alinea team and possesses a valuable skill set which only strengthens our vision to become the most sought after cost consultancy in the UK.
Having worked within the construction industry for over 30 years, with over 25 years in the London commercial property market. Alastair has a wealth of experience to draw upon, leading and managing projects from fast track fit out, to large scale urban regeneration schemes. He is a natural leader and has great relationships with his teams, clients, design teams and the wider supply chain.
Alastair has undertaken various roles but his strengths lies in the cost management of complex and politically sensitive commercial property projects. Alastair’s expertise helps our clients achieve their goals, by understanding and identifying what their needs are and where value can be added. He is passionate about providing service excellence and has a thorough understanding of market knowledge and insight.
Alastair is a Partner and is responsible for our people agenda.
Alex has over 19 years of industry experience operating mainly in the residential, retail and masterplanning sectors on some challenging and exciting schemes.
Within alinea, Alex heads up the residential offer and is passionate about innovation and economic design. Alex is part of the Buildoffsite Residential Hub Leadership group and is an advocate of modern methods of construction having worked on a number of projects utilising off site manufacture.
Alex has a successful record of cost managing complex projects for major developers from inception through to completion, with significant exposure to senior management.
With over twenty years’ experience Mark has been pushing the boundaries of typical cost consulting, positively influencing his projects through his creativity and strategic thinking.
Mark is passionate about demystifying cost consulting through the power of clear messaging. He also understands the power of a great project culture and his collaborative approach helps foster the right behaviours to enable this to happen. Both vital on any project.
Mark’s successful proven track record has seen him leading projects for the likes of Mitsubishi Estates, CORE, Stanhope, Chelsfield, The Crown Estate, Brockton, Hammerson and Legal & General.

Jon is well versed in the challenges of balancing the commercial pressure and expectations held by our clients where budgets are under immense scrutiny, against working collaboratively with designers to influence and inform how designs evolve to meet such constraints. He is a collaborative, mature and confident professional with a likeable style. He has been requested by some key clients to lead multiple schemes, providing strategic cost and procurement advice across each.
Jon has multi-sector experience including Retail, Commercial Office, Tall Building and Mixed-Use Masterplanning schemes where he has worked with a number of high-profile Clients, including; Stanhope, Mitsubishi Estate London, Aviva Investors, Capital Real Estate Partners, Selfridges & Co, ADIA, Schroders, Safra Real Estate and John Lewis.
Jon’s strong technical understanding has seen him take on a leading role in cost and data benchmarking management for a key alinea Client; this relies upon Jon’s diligent and considered approach to cost management, whilst building upon his detailed knowledge of the market.
Jon holds a First Class Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying and is a Chartered Member of the RICS.
Nic has spent almost 25 years in the construction industry and during this time has been involved in a number of high profile schemes across a range of sectors, with a focus on Mixed use, Commercial, Residential and Retail.
Nic’s experience is primarily in complex cut and carve projects and his knowledge allows him to play an active role in ensuring that projects are set up to succeed. One of his key strengths is
in recognising the various key drivers of costs and project situations that can exist. Nic is a team player and his expertise is founded on an impressive portfolio of retail projects and clients.
As a proud member of alinea, Nic is responsible for leading and working on strategic objectives of the business and also works on the Graduate Progression Programme (GPP) in helping to ensure that a number of our Graduates progress through their Assessment for Professional Competence
(APC).
Iain has spent the first half of his career at Davis Langdon, having been there 26 years. During this time he has worked on a many schemes across a range of sectors, but over the last 25 years has focused on the London commercial and mixed-use market.
Iain’s vast experience allows him to play a key role in ensuring that projects are set up to succeed, and one of his key strengths is in recognising how this needs to occur within the many various project situations that can exist. Iain is a team player and understands the importance of a first class project culture in achieving successful outcomes together. Service excellence, market knowledge and insight, asking good questions and challenging convention are examples of some of the things that Iain believes are required to ensure clients commercial expectations are exceeded – and Iain enjoys fantastic relationships with everyone he works with.
His expertise is founded upon an impressive portfolio of projects, ranging from small fit-out works, through large mixed-use schemes and also global HQ buildings for large owner occupier corporate organisations, both in the UK and overseas. This has allowed Iain to fully appreciate the varying cost and value drivers that exist between developers and occupiers.
As a proud founding Partner of alinea, Iain has been responsible for setting our people agenda and also helping to ensure that our client relationships are the best possible within our industry.
Iain is currently the Chairperson for the Partnership.
Andy has over 30 years of experience, 14 of which were spent at Arcadis where he provided advice for a number of high profile clients such as Land Securities and CIT. The majority of his career has been focused on the Central London property market, but he has led a number of schemes in other sectors and projects in Germany and Russia.
He has extensive residential experience, having led schemes such as Southbank Tower for CIT and Merchant Square.
Since joining alinea in 2016, Andy has focussed on developing our residential and mixed use project experience leading major projects for Stanhope, Schroders, Brockton Everlast and Fenton Whelan.
Sam is alinea’s People Partner. She joined alinea in 2015 and has over 20 years generalist HR experience gained in professional services and media industries. With the support of the wider People team, she provides a professional and business-focused service spanning the whole HR remit, including recruitment, learning & development, health & wellbeing, diversity & inclusion, engagement, CSR and recognition & reward.
Sam is passionate about people and a natural communicator. She is a commercial people partner operating with empathy, energy, pragmatism and resilience to build and develop long-lasting relationships with people at all levels.
People are the key to alinea’s competitive advantage, phenomenal growth and sustainable business success and Sam is responsible for creating and driving a HR agenda which supports and develops this dynamic and vibrant community, ensuring our exceptional talent can do their best work in an engaging and inspiring environment.
Hamish has 25 years’ experience in a range of sectors, although over recent years this has been focused in the Commercial, Life Sciences and Retail Development Sectors. He is an excellent team worker, developing effective relationships with all parties, keeping to commitments and deadlines.
Hamish has been responsible for leading major projects, most recently the 1m sqft Whitechapel Road Life Science Development and Project Fed for Brockton Everlast. Another recent project saw him lead the Brent Cross Shopping Centre Regeneration for Hammerson plc and Aberdeen Standard.
Hamish relishes the opportunity to lead projects and has an excellent hands-on approach that quickly allows him to achieve a “trusted advisor” status with the clients with whom he works.

Richard has more than 20 years experience within the Commercial sector, predominantly working on office developments within Central London.
Richard has been responsible for leading major projects for Stanhope, Legal and General, Brockton Capital and Great Portland Estates. Most recently, he has worked with Stanhope leading Garrard House an office refurbishment project in the City of London and with Brockton Capital on Shoreditch Village a new build office to the east of the City located in Central London.
As an excellent project leader, Richard brings a collaborative, professional, and relaxed style to his projects. He is committed to delivering excellence for his clients and making a tangible difference to the projects he works on.
Richard is one of the founding Partners at alinea. He has primarily focused on Retail Development, Commercial Offices and Retailers in his 28 years working in the Property industry. He was the Retail Sector Head at Davis Langdon before becoming Global Head of Commercial at EC Harris before starting with alinea.
Richard is absolutely client and design focused. He has been the client account leader both in the UK and overseas for a number of blue chip clients. Including the likes of Blackstone, Waitrose/JLP, Sainsbury’s, Land Securities, Grosvenor and McArthur/Glen.
Richard’s portfolio also includes numerous commercial projects, delivered for the likes of Argent, Derwent London and Blackstone and residential projects for Greystar, Grosvenor and Stanhope. Major Projects Richard has led include Brent Cross Regeneration, Liverpool One and Greenford Green.
Within alinea, Richard will be supported by Iain Parker to focus on our client engagement, aligned with our business development strategy, to ensure clients receive the high quality service alinea are committing to.
Paul is one of the founding Partners at alinea. He has 31 years’ of experience in the industry, 24 of which were at Davis Langdon where he led both their Education and the Retail Sectors in the UK, whilst also heading up the Business Intelligence agenda.
Paul is a hands-on cost manager who is comfortable sitting at the client’s side offering strategic advice. His enthusiasm for the industry is evident in his practical and common sense approach, underpinned by service excellence and technical knowledge. The experience Paul has garnered over the years comes from working on difficult cut and carve retail refurbishments, such as JLP Oxford Street, through to rolling fit-out programmes for the likes of M&S; and on to major City Centre redevelopment projects such as Minories, Bracknell, Northern Retail Quarter and Whiteleys.
Paul’s last 7 years have been as a founding Partner of alinea and part-time Head of IT and Infrastructure. This experience has only reconfirmed Paul’s enthusiasm for hands-on cost management.
Gordon is the leader of our an Workplace sector is a Member of the LLP. He is fully focused on the occupier and flexible workplace market his entire career, he is a specialist with an in-depth knowledge of the sector, the key players and appreciates commercial drivers of Workplace projects.
Gordon is a highly articulate and euthusiastic professional with a high level of Client focus and attention to detail. Gordon fully integrates himself with the Design Team and quickly becomes an integral member of the team.
Gordon is always willing to support fellow consultants from others disciplines to assist them in the delivery of their role while maintaining the best interest of the Client and the project at all times.
Angela has 13 years’ experience working across a range of sectors, most recently commercial / mixed use, life sciences and cultural. Angela’s effectiveness as a cost manager far exceeds her years as a practitioner – she is well regarded by two of our key clients (Stanhope and Brookfield).
Angela has gained significant experience working on large high profile projects in London including 1 Leadenhall, British Library extension, the Tate Modern Extension and the V&A Exhibition Road Quarter. Angela has worked in multiple sectors across Australia and the UK.
Angela has a dedicated and collaborative style but has no nonsense approach. She is supported by strong sector awareness and technical skills, which were founded by working on major projects in Melbourne. Always aiming to foster strong relationships with design team members, this approach has led to Angela being well respected by leading UK architects such as Make and RSHP for providing a reassuring “hand on the shoulder” to guide architectural teams through the design v cost relationship. Angela is particularly strong at ensuring that our output and reporting is presented in a graphically powerful and clear manner to facilitate effective decision making on projects.
Steve joined private practice from the curtain walling industry in the summer of 2001, having acquired over 20 years’ experience in that field.
Steve’s role is to provide high level strategic advice on the variety of possible facade solutions across all market sectors. Steve’s project specific advice is often cost and procurement related initially, supported by close relationships with the diverse supply chain. He assists in marrying quality design solutions with the client’s aspirations and budget. Steve is well known in the industry and his knowledge of the facade market and his related advice is specifically sought by many of our leading clients and architects.
The high level strategic advice role enables Steve to work on multiple projects across all market sectors and thus gain first-hand knowledge of the diverse range of facade solutions. Acquired knowledge is then reinvested back in to other schemes.
Steve’s specialism is very much a unique and added value service for alinea and provides genuine differentiation in our consultancy advice.
Simon joined alinea in 2018 and was previously a Director at Mace Cost Consultancy and lead the Datacentre, Technology and Engineering Services business unit. Having previously been a Director in Deloitte Real Estate for 7 years and a Partner at Gardiner & Theobald for 12 years, where he was responsible for leading the engineering services team, operating mainly in the private commercial and leisure sectors.
Over the last 26 years Simon’s role has included the delivery of traditional engineering services cost management on many diverse projects from small commercial fit-outs to multi million pound, master plan scheme. Uniquely Simon also has experience in commercial construction advisory, which involved carrying out numerous due diligence, purchase/disposal and investment appraisals.
Simon’s areas of expertise have developed from his core skills as an M&E Cost Manager and include expertise in all stages of the project cycle including feasibility studies, cost planning, procurement, pre/post cost management, contract administration and value engineering. Whilst his experience is predominantly in the Commercial offices sector, he also has experience in Infrastructure, Residential, Education, Retail, Arts and Culture and low carbon and renewable technologies solutions.
Paul is a Partner within the Workplace team. He has delivered services across all sectors with his main expertise in occupier capital projects. With 31 years of experience Paul has delivered major projects for Clients in London, across the UK and in Europe. Paul has strong leadership skills, with an in-depth knowledge of the construction industry, cost, strategic planning and procurement.
Paul joins alinea consulting in April 2020. He was previously Head of London Cost Consultancy at Cushman & Wakefield for just over two years (2018 to 2020). He was at Deloitte for seven years (2011 to 2017) where he helped build the cost consultancy business to a team of 35. Paul was at Arcadis (formerly AYH) for 14 years (1997 to 2011) where he headed up the multi-disciplinary workplace team of 100. He started his career at ECHarris where he trained and gained his professional qualification over 8 years (1989 to 1997).
Cameron has over 20 years industry experience in a range of sectors, although over recent years this has been focused in the Commercial Sector. He is an excellent team worker, developing effective relationships with all parties, keeping to commitments and deadlines.
Cameron has been responsible for leading complex and major projects with his most recent projects being complex refurbishment schemes for Blackstone Property Management, Landsec and British Land.
Within alinea, one of Cameron’s responsibilities is to oversee the development and roll out of our integrated management system. This is closely linked to his supporting role, alongside Paul Zuccherelli, with our business excellence system.
In addition to this, Cameron also heads up our Resource Groups managing the business requirements across new and existing projects. He is also leading on the digital initiative within the business enabling integration between Revit, our cost planning and software and enabling real time access to key data.
Steve has over 35 years’ experience in the industry, working with many leading developers and a host of top designers on demanding projects, large and small.
Steve has unrivalled knowledge in the economics of tall buildings, and vast experience in commercial office buildings and mixed-use masterplans. He is adept at early stage cost modelling/feasibility studies/cost-benefit analyses and has a passion for helping to set up projects for success.
Steve enjoys a challenge, possessing a forensic attention to detail, as well as the ability to see the bigger picture. He is a Founding Partner of alinea consulting and leads the Knowledge Group, setting the agenda and actively contributing to research studies across a range of topical subjects.
Carl has 19 years’ experience across a range of sectors, although the principal focus throughout his career has been and remains in the London Commercial Sector.
Carl has been responsible for leading major projects for clients such as Lipton Rogers Developments, Brookfield Properties, Oxford Properties, The Crown Estate, Core, Mitsubishi Estate London, Stanhope, Blackstone, Chelsfield and Hammerson.
Carl is an enthusiastic, astute and self-motivated team player, who is committed to delivering excellence for his clients.
An excellent project leader who assumes a collaborative approach, Carl demonstrates a desire to deliver a tangible difference through his personable and passionate style.

Mark is one of the founders of alinea with over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry. Mark is recognised as a major project and procurement specialist, who is passionate about his profession and enjoys making a positive difference for his clients. Mark is a Fellow of the RICS.
Mark is a trusted advisor to his clients and a positive project enabler, who is able to use his experience and knowledge to work closely with teams and influence designers for positive project outcomes. Within alinea, Mark is leading major commercial, residential and mixed use schemes for Stanhope, Mitsubishi Estate London, Selfridges, The Crown Estate, Great Portland Estates and CO-RE
Beyond alinea, Mark is active within both Technical Affairs Committee and as Regional Awards judge for 2021-2024. He is also a member of the BCIS Tender Price Index Committee and has recently joined the Government Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Professional and Business Services Council. Mark is also helping to draft the Private Sector ‘Playbook’ with clients and contractors.
Mark’s strengths lie in his technical knowledge as a cost consultant, construction knowledge, market awareness and attention to detail. Within alinea, Mark is responsible for legal aspects of our business and ‘Service & Knowledge’, i.e. how alinea delivers cost management, best practice and data management. This extends to leading technical peer reviews of schemes and collaborating closely with Steve Watts and Rachel Coleman on alinea’s agenda around ‘Research and Insight’, where Mark is a respected commentator.
John is a Partner with alinea consulting LLP and a chartered surveyor with 20 years of industry experience.
John is a motivated and commercially astute Quantity Surveyor with extensive experience in both the UK and Middle East and has successfully led and delivered pre and post cost management services across a range of complex and prestigious projects in the Residential, Retail, Hospitality, Education and Commercial sectors.
Rob leads alinea’s MEP services team, along side Simon Willis. He has over 15 years of industry experience within MEP Services cost management. Since joining the business in 2013, he has had a remit to grow this specialist part of the business, which now totals 13 people.
Rob enjoys working in all stages of the cost management process from feasibility through to final account agreement and has a close understanding of the central London MEP market. He is a driven individual and his personable nature means he works well with MEP engineers to explore alternative ideas in order to find optimum design solutions to suit the budget.
Rob’s knowledge of the MEP supply chain is also key when embarking on procurement strategies and ensuring our clients’ interests are best looked after during the delivery stages of projects.
His area of expertise are residential, commercial and mixed-use projects for clients such as Stanhope, British Land, Blackstone and The Crown Estate.
Joe has been working in the MEP services industry since 2006, having previously worked with Davis Langdon (2006-2013) where he completed his degree and professional accreditation.
Joe has worked across various sectors within the UK construction industry, including Commercial Tall Buildings, high specification Residential fit-out, high specification work place fit out and data centres.
Joe is comfortable operating at all stages of the cost management process from feasibility through to final account agreement.
Joe has an extensive understanding of the central London MEP market, keeping close to the supply chain in order to best advise his clients.
Joe puts a real focus on understanding the client’s key drivers, helping to deliver a service which has resulted in numerous repeat clients throughout his career. His technical knowledge and personable approach allows him to work closely with engineers in order to understand and challenge the design.
Michael has over 30 years’ experience in the industry working across a range of sectors, including: Offices; Life Sciences; Residential; Aviation; Education, Hospitality and Culture.
Michael strongly believes that the role of the cost consult should be about helping a client deliver value without diminishing design aspirations. He has worked with many of the industry’s key architects and designers to deliver exceptional value through effective communication of the cost of construction.
Michael is used to working on large scale, complex, multi-phased schemes, at inception, through master planning as well as through the detail of procurement and delivery.
Prior to joining alinea Michael was head of cost management at Deloitte, which provided him with a broader understanding of the property market, though working on strategic reviews, due diligence, insolvencies and acquisition engagements.
While at Deloitte Michael led the hugely influential London Office Crane Survey for a number of years providing him with an extensive understanding of the London Office market.
Richard has over 18 years’ experience in the construction industry, within a variety of different sectors. Richard has a passion for excellent service delivery and this together with his strong communication skills, professionalism and integrity has resulted in him building deep, trusted relationships with his clients. This has in turn led to Richard being requested to play a lead role in complex projects, programmes and masterplans, including managing teams.
Richard has demonstrated his ability within different positions including complex new build projects and masterplans; ‘cut and carve’ projects within existing live environments; and high volume fit out on major programmes. He has a good attention to detail whilst working under pressure, a strong technical understanding across all aspects of quantity surveying and has a real tenacity to reach a desired outcome.
Within alinea, Richard is an integral part of our strategy for the Public Sector and our BIM Specialism. His versatility has also allowed him to play a number of key roles within our Business Excellence, Innovation, Business Planning Process and Strategic Objectives.
Tom is a strategically minded surveyor with extensive contract administration and project delivery experience, wide ranging analytical skills and significantly varied client involvement working in contracting and consulting across Finance and Construction sectors.
Tom has experience on large and complex new build and refurbishment projects, both as Commercial Manager and Cost Consultant and experience of working with clients and project teams in implementing change management, contractual discipline and due diligence.
Tom has a broad understanding of project risk, market conditions and commercial issues facing organisations. He takes a proactive approach to complex issues thanks to an academic background in Economics.
